Today's post is about movies that are period pieces. Those movies that have it all: gorgeous period dresses, dapper gentlemen, lovely scenery and great soundtracks - if you like music found in balls, that is.
Let's get this list started, then:
*Bright Star (2009):
Bright Star tells the story of the romance between John Keats and Fanny Brawne, romance that inspired the poem of the same name. Although I have read that the poem's first version might have been about Keats's former lady friend Isabella Jones.
The most striking thing about this movie, to me, is some of the takes on it, some of them are just beautiful. In fact, this movie is a beautiful movie, visually.
*Becoming Jane (2007):
A very, very, very loose take on Jane Austen's romace with one Tom Lefroy. I say that because Becoming Jane is not faithful to the actual story at all -or at least, what we know from it. Starting from the fact that Jane's suitor Mr. Wisley is fictional and so are some other bits of the movie that I won't go into so as to not spoil the fun.
This one gets special mention for its witty dialogue and lovely music.
*The Young Victoria (2009):
The Young Victoria is the most historically faithful movie of this batch, probably considering due to its being about Queen Victoria, so it's well documented. The movie tells the story of her early days as Queen and her budding romance with Prince Albert.
The beauty of this movie is, honestly, the dresses - they are stunning, it's no wonder it got an Oscar for it. However, the story in itself is amazing, as well. I'm a hopeless romantic, so it's refreshing to see people live that fairy tale that we always see on cartoons and hardly ever in real life (the fact that this is about royalty only adds to it, especially because when they marry it's mostly about duty and politics - be it fictional royalty or otherwise).
And because I can't help myself, even though it has already a post of its own:
*Pride & Prejudice (2005):
