For a while now, I've noticed that a lot of television lovers seem unaware of one of the best shows on tv right now. The show in question is Criminal Minds.
The show's main cast, from left to right: Shemar Moore(Derek Morgan), Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia), Paget Brewster (Emily Prentiss), Thomas Gibson (Aaron Hotchner), Joe Mantegna (David Rossi), A.J. Cook (Jennifer "JJ" Jareau) and Matthew Gray Gubler (Dr. Spencer Reid).
Criminal Minds follows the FBI's BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit) and everything happens in the same way all police procedural dramas do: each episode a different crime to be solved, the occasional story that goes for a few episodes and the story arc that can take up sporadical episodes in several seasons - you know, the usual.
Procedural cop shows are an overrated genre these days with all the CSIs and Law & Orders, but here we have a show about what drives the criminals. By that, I mean that the crimes are solved by the BAU doing the pshycological profile of the people behind said crimes (a.k.a the unsubs). So, they get into the mind of the worst criminals and, more often than not, they catch them. The interesting side of this getting-into-the-head-of-the-criminals thing is that on some episodes you actually feel for the bad guys. The show is notable for keeping the motives behind the crimes realistic and the villains tend to be incredibly fascinating characters.
This is one of the rare shows where I happen to love all of the main characters. While they are all unique, the group dynamics is what seals the deal for me. The characters have that very close family-like relationship that, in the midst of all the bad deeds, makes for a nice, and much appreciated, contrast.
You should be off catching up to it, it's been airing since 2005, so there's quite a lot to watch.
However, if you want to know more before you start do go to its page on TvTropes.
